How are you? I for one have lost all sense of time and have run out of internet.
Aside from intemperate amounts of screen time, my life has involved mostly light housekeeping, some Netflix and generally wandering around my house in my bathrobe, yelling at things.
Who said the blogging life wasn't glamorous?
Amidst all the gloomy news and the disappointment of everything from not being able to do our usual Greek Easters, to having to cancel trips and so on, there has been one little spot of sunlight fighting through the incessant pandemic-related clouds, at least in TGL-world.
I'm very pleased to report that - while The Greekish Life is still a teeny tiny blog - we are showing up on Google LIKE A BOSS!
Here are the stats for the following queries (as of this writing):
"Lathera" - 2nd page
"Greek Pasta Primavera" - 2nd page
"Greek beauty products" - 1st or 2nd page, depending on when you look
"Kostas Roukounas" - 1st page, fourth down after Wikipedia, YouTube and Amazon!
"Getting started in Greek genealogy" - 1st page
"gift ideas Greek cook" - 1st page
"Samos gallery" - 1st page
"Greek reggae" - 1st page
...and drum roll, please!
"Greek blogs" - Number One position on Google!
Aw, yisssss. And it's not a fluke; it's been at the top for over a month now!
When I first saw that I stared at the page, dumbfounded, and almost got a little teary-eyed.
If you've ever had a website, you know all about SEO (search engine optimization) and how important it is to get ranked highly on Google, so this is a Big Hairy Deal for me and my itty-bitty site.
So I'm allowing myself some happy feels about this!
Apologies for not having any new content up right now. I'm working on a couple of things, and if I get my act together, I'm hoping by the weekend or early next week to have a new video up. Don't know about you, but I need a vacation to Greece, and my photos and videos are as close as I'm gonna get for a while.
Have you had to cancel or postpone a trip to Greece? Are you rescheduling? I'm curious to know what folks are doing.
I had a trip planned for this month, then had to cancel that and planned for June, then cancelled THAT, thanks to the pandemic. Forgive me if I'm a bit out of sorts, but I should be in a cheery taverna on the coast of Crete right now, face-deep in reasonably-priced souvlaki and local wine.
I was ever-so-tentatively thinking of maybe just possibly considering trying again for September, if both the US and Greece had the COVID numbers way down and travel was getting back to normal.
That's not looking too good, either.
I know...First World Problems. But if you're a lover of Greece, I think you feel me.
As a slight remedy for this situation, this was passed on to me and it looks pretty fun! TripAdvisor is advertising the Withlocals Dance Like the Greek Live Online Experience. I don't know anything about it, but TripAdvisor lists it like this:
Take an interactive dance workshop with an Athens’ local
Hear about the city’s history of dance and other cultural fun facts
A live class allows you to stop and ask your instructor questions
This virtual tour is a private experience just for you and your household
I may do it! It's probably the next best thing to being there in person. Keep in mind the time slots listed are Athens time. Until next time, please Share and Like us on Facebook, tell your friends about us, and wash your hands.
Warmly, Barbara
